See you in the fall for new events and classes
brought to you by our wonderful instructors at

Genealogy is the search for our greatest treasure - our ancestors. Family history is the study of the lives they led.  Tracing ancestors as far back as possible has brought a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction to many people. Genealogists who have delved into their family history knows that the more information they uncover about their ancestors, the more fascinating these people become. Researchers begin to learn more about the times these people lived in: their social, religious, and political environments.

Another reason to study genealogy is to leave a legacy for our children and grandchildren. At some time in our life we begin to sort out what is important to us.  We want to be remembered. Genealogy can rescue our ancestors from obscurity, giving them their rightful place in history, and linking one generation to the next. The most precious gift we can give to our children is their heritage.

One important reason to study family history is learn about the medical history of our ancestors. This will enable us to take appropriate measures to keep ourselves and our families healthy. Many diseases are hereditary. What better way to prevent a disease than to know there is a possibility you could contract it? We can help our families to understand why they should stay healthy, eat well, and exercise, and encourage them to do so.

The Charlotte County Genealogical Society recognizes the importance of providing education for genealogists at all levels. Because ancestors multiply exponentially, it is important to understand the concepts involved in genealogy to assure that you are connecting each generation to the previous one in such a way that you are certain that you are claiming the right ancestor.
